I Met Some of the Most Resilient Women in Africa | Samburu, Kenya 🇰🇪 This was one of the most meaningful experiences of my journey through Kenya. ❤️ I had the privilege of spending time with a women’s community group in Samburu, Umojo Women’s centre — a place where women come together to support, encourage and empower one another. The group provides a haven and community support for women who have experienced physical abuse, while also helping to educate women and girls about female genital mutilation (FGM) and offering support around the challenges they face. But this visit wasn’t only about difficult stories. It was also about strength, friendship, culture, creativity and joy. The women welcomed me with incredible warmth. They sang, danced and invited me to join them — a moment I’ll remember for a very long time. 💃🏽❤️ They also create beautiful traditional beadwork by hand, and I was delighted to buy some of their pieces and support their work directly. What struck me most was their sense of community. These women are not defined by what they may have experienced. They are mothers, friends, artisans, dancers, entrepreneurs and women supporting other women. One of the reasons I created Beck Fearless was not simply to travel and have adventures, but to meet people along the way, listen to their stories and learn from lives very different from my own. I came away from Samburu feeling inspired by the women I met and grateful that they allowed me to spend time with them and experience a little of their community. This is their strength, their culture and their story.
