If every decision in your business has to go through you, what happens when you step away?
That question was at the heart of my conversation with Aileda Bailey on The Fractional Network’s Member Spotlight.
This interview was personal for me. Aileda is a mentor and a friend who helped push me to step out of the corporate world and into entrepreneurship, a journey that eventually led to founding The Fractional Network.
With more than three decades of experience building, operating, and advising businesses, she brings a practical perspective to leadership. We explored the ideas behind her book, Wake Up and Lead, and what it takes to build a company that can thrive beyond its owner.
A few takeaways that deserve every leader’s attention:
Recognize when you’re operating on autopilot. Repeating the same habits can keep your business stuck in the same problems.
Develop leaders around you. Filling positions is only the beginning; people need training, trust, and room to make decisions.
Give your team space to learn. Aileda shared a useful starting point: if a decision is easily reversible, it may be an opportunity to let someone else take the lead.
Use your numbers to stay informed and hold people accountable as you delegate.
Take ownership of how you lead. Building a stronger organization starts with examining your own habits and behavior.
One idea I shared during our conversation is something I believe deeply: when you develop someone who can step into your role, you’re preparing yourself for your next opportunity.
Aileda, thank you for challenging me, encouraging me, and sharing your experience with our community. Iron sharpens iron, and I’m grateful to have you in my corner.
