Pragati College of Education, Siliguri, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India on 15 August 2026 with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The programme was organised as part of the college’s Independence Day celebrations and the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, with the active participation of the students and teaching staff.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag in the presence of the Principal, teachers and students of the college. The National Flag was hoisted by the Principal, Dr. Biswajit Biswas, marking the beginning of the Independence Day observance. The ceremony was conducted in an atmosphere of pride, respect and patriotism, with the members of the college community coming together to honour the nation.
Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, the students and teachers proceeded to the Seminar Hall, where a special programme was organised to commemorate the occasion. The programme included speeches and reflections by the Principal and teachers, who spoke about the significance of Independence Day, the responsibilities of citizens and the values associated with India’s freedom struggle.
The students also actively participated in the programme by sharing their views, thoughts and speeches on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. Their participation reflected their awareness of the importance of the day and their appreciation of the sacrifices and contributions of the freedom fighters who laid the foundation for an independent India.
The programme provided an opportunity for the students to reflect upon the meaning of freedom, the responsibilities that accompany it, and the importance of unity, integrity and patriotism in nation-building.
The celebration concluded on a warm and joyful note, with chocolates being distributed among the students. Thereafter, the students were dispersed for the day.
The Independence Day celebration was successfully conducted with active participation from the students and teachers and served as a meaningful reminder of the nation’s journey towards independence and the collective responsibility to uphold the values of freedom, unity and national pride.
