From a red cloud on Mount Hao a child is watching Tang Seng. He turns himself into a helpless little boy hanging in a pine tree and cries for help. Wukong knows he is a demon, but the kind master tells Wukong to carry him. The child on his back grows heavier and heavier, a whirlwind springs up, and the master is gone! The Earth God explains: this is Red Boy of Fire-Cloud Cave, son of the Bull Demon King, who trained for three hundred years and mastered the samadhi fire. "Then I'm his uncle!" laughs Wukong. Red Boy does not agree. After twenty rounds with his fire-tipped spear he steps back to five little carts, thumps his own nose twice, and breathes out a great ball of fire. Sandy has an idea: fire fears water. Wukong fetches the four Dragon Kings and their rain, but the more it rains, the higher this fire burns. It is like pouring oil on the flames! Then a mouthful of smoke gets into Wukong's fiery golden eyes; he jumps into the stream, faints from the cold, and Bajie rubs him awake. Only Guanyin can help now. Bajie flies south on a cloud, and the red cloud slips quietly after him...
