As a record breaking heatwave begins to break down, severe thunderstorms were forecast to break out across the UK on the night of the 25th/26th. Where there were severe storms across Scotland and Northern Ireland, the cap prevented more than a few isolated storms in England. However, towards dawn thunderstorms started breaking out more widely across the West Midlands and Northern England, in an environment of 2000-3000j/kg of CAPE.
