What does it really mean to support the skin barrier—and why should it guide the way we assess skin and plan treatments?
Join Kai Atkinson, Educator & Research Lead at derma aesthetics, for an engaging exploration of barrier science and corneotherapy. This ABIC hosted webinar connects the structure and function of the stratum corneum with practical thinking for beauty and aesthetics professionals.
Move beyond chasing visible symptoms to understand why the skin is behaving the way it is—and what it needs to function more effectively.
In this webinar, you’ll explore:
• How the skin barrier is built, including corneocytes, filaggrin, natural moisturising factor (NMF) and lipid organisation.
• Factors that can compromise barrier function, from over-exfoliation and inappropriate skincare to environmental and physiological influences.
• The principles of corneotherapy: preserving, restoring and maintaining the skin barrier.
• Physiological lipids and lamellar formulation technologies.
• The relationship between barrier dysfunction, inflammation and atopic skin.
• How understanding biological pathways can inform ingredient selection and individualised treatment planning.
