Rani Gaidinliu became a spiritual leader and a prominent figure in the resistance to British colonial authority, closely associated with the Heraka movement and the wider struggle of the Zeliangrong people. Her story was never simple. To some, she was a defender of indigenous faith and identity. To others, her movement represented a different ideological path. In later decades, her life and legacy were interpreted through different political and cultural narratives. Yet beneath those interpretations remains the story of a young woman who entered the history of the Northeast during a turbulent period and spent much of her life carrying the memory of that struggle. Rani Gaidinliu – Daughter of Zeliangrong Flame explores that history through atmospheric black metal — not to simplify her legacy, but to remember its complexity. Resistance without erasure.
