A six-minute song with no chorus. A video shot in a few hours on a tiny budget. And it changed Queen, and the music business, forever.
In 1975, Queen were broke, freshly split from their Trident management deal, and gambling everything on A Night at the Opera. Then came Bohemian Rhapsody. We trace how the song was built, how Kenny Everett's radio plays created demand, and how Bruce Gowers' promotional video, filmed at Elstree and recreating the famous Queen II cover pose by Mick Rock, let the band appear on Top of the Pops while on tour. We follow its nine weeks at number one, its role in popularising the music video, the operatic section played from tape while the band left the stage, the money and creative freedom that followed, and Queen's rise from theatres to Hyde Park, Live Aid and Wembley Stadium.
This is a fan-made documentary for educational purposes.
