Can you get into Wharton with a GRE Quant score below the 50th percentile? Cliff did—with a 154 GRE Quant score and a 310 overall GRE. But his story is not about test scores being unimportant. It is about what the rest of an MBA application needs to demonstrate when one part of your profile is clearly below the norm. 👉 Reach out to Cliff on LinkedIn   / louis-c   👉 Get 10% Off GMAT Club Tests with this Link https://gmatclub.com/gmat-focus-tests... 👉 The RC Passage Cliff referred in the talk    • RC - Jon Clark’s study of the effect of th...   👉 Low GPA, 5 GMAT Attempts & a PR Career — Yet She Got Into Wharton    • Low GPA, 5 GMAT Attempts & a PR Career — Y...   👉 MBA Admit Stories – Scholarships, Challenges & Success    • MBA Admit Stories – Scholarships, Challeng...   👉 GMAT Club MBA Podcasts    • GMAT Club MBA Podcasts 2025   👉 Subscribe for upcoming episodes on essays, school-specific strategies, and expert MBA insights every applicant needs    / @mba_club   Originally from India and raised in Canada, Cliff built his career as a petroleum engineer in the energy sector. After nearly six years of technical experience, he wanted to transition into management and leadership—and decided that Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton were the only MBA programs he would pursue. Despite struggling with standardized testing, Cliff continued strengthening other parts of his candidacy. At work, he took on initiatives including an AI-enabled carbon capture project that reached executive leadership and earned him recognition from his CEO. His rigorous academic background in petroleum engineering also provided additional evidence of his quantitative ability. In this MBA Admit Story, Cliff explains how he approached his GRE weakness, developed a clear career narrative, strengthened his profile alongside test preparation, and connected his energy-sector experience with a larger purpose in his essays and recommendations. He also discusses why applicants should know their “true north,” how GMAT Club helped him through both GRE preparation and MBA applications, and why authenticity matters when applying to highly selective business schools. Cliff eventually applied to Wharton in Round 1, was admitted, and did not need to submit his planned applications to Harvard and Stanford.
