🎧 Welcome to Jazz Bil Arabi — where the sounds, stories, and cultures of the Arab world and its surrounding ancient worlds are reimagined through jazz. Put on your headphones, let the music play, and follow the story behind this album. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 THE STORY | القصة 🔺 KHUFU — THE GREAT PYRAMID More than 4,500 years ago, ancient Egyptians began building a monument so enormous that it would remain the tallest human-made structure on Earth for thousands of years. The Great Pyramid of Giza. It was built during Egypt's Fourth Dynasty as the monumental tomb complex of King Khufu. Today, the pyramid feels almost impossible. Millions of blocks. Enormous quantities of stone. Materials transported across Egypt. Thousands of people who had to be housed, organized, supplied and fed. But perhaps the greatest mystery is not the pyramid itself. It is the society capable of building it. Archaeology at Giza has transformed our understanding of the people behind the pyramids. Excavations south of the Sphinx uncovered a large Fourth Dynasty settlement that served as a base of operations for the royal construction projects. This was a working city. There were laborers, craftsmen, managers and administrators. Archaeologists uncovered workshops, storage areas, kitchens, bakeries, houses and facilities needed to support a huge workforce. Food and materials arrived from across Egypt. And then another extraordinary discovery gave one of those workers a voice. Ancient papyri discovered at Wadi al-Jarf include the diary of an official named Merer. His records describe his crew transporting limestone by boat toward the construction project of Khufu. Suddenly, the Great Pyramid is no longer only a mysterious stone monument. We can glimpse the people moving its materials. Imagine Giza while the pyramid was still rising. Boats arriving with stone. Workers moving between workshops. Bread being prepared. Officials recording supplies. Craftsmen shaping materials. And above everything, the pyramid growing higher against the Egyptian sky. Generation after generation eventually disappeared. The construction site fell silent. Khufu's world became archaeology. But the mountain of stone remained. 00:00 Ascending Harp Rite 02:07 Boats on the Nile 04:20 Nile Stone Drift 06:52 Quarry Flute Cycle 08:56 Raising the Great Pyramid 11:14 Reedwork on the Nile 11:49 Stone for Khufu 13:48 The Builders of Giza 15:51 The Workers' City 18:04 Toward the Sky ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎧 Let the music play.
