What does a Las Vegas HVAC company owner look for when hiring a new technician? Stacy Lang, co-owner of Express Home Services, says communication comes first and technical skill comes second.
Stacy co-owns a Las Vegas home services company that does HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. She came into the trades from nonprofit work, not from the field, and she sits down with QTC Academic Director Aaron Clark to explain exactly what she wants from new hires.
What do HVAC employers want from a new hire? Good communication, a willingness to ask questions, and the drive to learn the business, not just the work. Stacy calls it humble, hungry, and smart.
How do you get hired with no experience? Walk in the door, look professional, and bring your resume. She remembers the people who show up in person.
Can women succeed in the trades? Stacy says she has not felt pushback in the industry and has hired multiple female technicians. QTC has enrolled more women this year than in several years combined, including a women’s scholarship with NAWIC, the Nevada Association of Women in Construction.
Will AI replace HVAC and electrical technicians? Stacy says no. AI may replace some office work, but it will not replace the people who go into your home.
Is HVAC a good career in Las Vegas? She sees shortages in every trade, with the most future in electrical right now. HVAC work is seasonal, so she recommends staying at your first company for one full season and keeping a nest egg.
