S1 Episode 8 - Journey to Jamaica

A special edition of Lost Trails! Join me and soul brother Sluggo on a tropical adventure. We visit the enchanted island of Jamaica, travelling off the beaten path and away from the tourists. This is my first ever trip to Jamaica, and I'm so touched by the kindness and generosity of the people. Our first home away from home is Ras Mokko's yard in St. Thomas Jamaica, just up the road from Morant Bay and on the edge of the Blue Mountain National Park. Mokko is the real deal and a wonderful human being. Ask him for his incredible akee and saltfish, and bush teas picked from the jungle all around. Our last stop is Portland, Jamaica and the yard of Chucky Freelance. A warm heart that was tragically stopped due to an accident. His Air BNB is now run by his daughter Tizzania, another wonderful kind soul. Hope Bay is just down the road from Port Antonio and steps from the ocean. I love Jamaica and Jamacia loves me. I know this story isn't about the PNW at all, but the people and the place have inspired me so much that I see Oregon in Jamaica, and vice versa. Wilderness is home. Same, but different. If I had my way, I'd be born in this place and live the life of a Rasta with a cold Red Stripe nearby and a pile of coconuts.
