Haunted Hours by Rob Matare is a moody, cinematic hip hop song about sleepless nights, fear and facing yourself at three in the morning. From the album Run That By Me. The radiator knocks like a landlord with a warrant for his sleep, and a streetlamp bleeds orange stripes across the sheets. Cold coffee, a hot laptop, a cursor blinking like a pulse and sixteen tabs of ghosts. The floorboards whisper his name and he answers back in bars. Rent due on the first feels like a threat. At the end of the hall there is a fogged mirror he never looks at twice. Tonight he wipes it with his sleeve: Mama's tired eyes, a jaw built to last, bags like luggage from ten years of overnight flights. The ghost in the hallway was him all along, haunting his own house since he was nineteen. Fear in a trench coat, unbuttoned, has nothing inside but a kid with stacked dreams. By morning the cold spot is a bass line. “It was never a ghost. It was a mirror.” This visualizer is a dark late-night rap track with a creaking intro and a music-box bridge, for insomniacs, night owls and anyone working through doubt in the small hours. It is about turning fear into fuel and three a.m. into the work that pays off at nine. What keeps you up at three a.m.?
