Five years ago, I travelled to the Jura wine region in eastern France to film a documentary about one of the world's most fascinating wine regions. I wanted to understand why Jura wines—made from distinctive grape varieties like Savagnin, Poulsard and Trousseau, and iconic styles such as Vin Jaune—had become so sought after by sommeliers and wine lovers around the world. Instead, I came home with something entirely different. In this episode, I reflect on the journey that changed the way I see wine. Through conversations with remarkable Jura winemakers including Clémentine Baud, Stéphane Tissot and Laurent Macle, I witnessed the realities of growing grapes in one of France's most challenging wine regions: devastating frost, hail, mildew, climate change, financial pressure, and the determination to preserve centuries of tradition. Looking back, I now realize that this trip planted the seed for The Wine Resistance. It changed my understanding of what wine represents—not simply what's in the glass, but the people, places, history, culture and craftsmanship behind every bottle. Because these stories are worth preserving. 🍷 This is the story behind the story.
