Lee Allen And His Band - Walkin' With Mr Lee (BSN Stereo Mix)

Tenor saxophone player Lee Allen has few singles under his own name, but he can be heard on dozens of hits and hundreds of recordings by other artists. Originally from Kansas, he moved to New Orleans in 1943 and soon joined Paul Gayten’s band, then Dave Bartholomew’s band. So he was on many early Fats Domino and Lloyd Price records, and then became the sax player on Little Richard’s 1955-56 hits. He was on Huey “Piano” Smith’s records and in fact was on most records coming out of Cosimo Matassa’s famous New Orleans studio. Allen’s first single from September, 1956 was actually “Rockin’ At Cosmo’s”. “Walkin’ With Mr. Lee” was his second single, released November, 1957. It was not only issued on a single, but also on an EP, and later on an album. It reached #54 on Billboard and #32 on Music Vendor. It was #1 in hometown New Orleans, and reached top-10 in Albany New York, the Washington DC area, and Boston. In Chicago, it made #25 on WJJD.
