SANDO autonomous drone navigation technology is designed to help robots and uncrewed aerial vehicles avoid collisions in unfamiliar environments. Developed by MIT researchers, this advanced flight-planning system calculates safe routes even when obstacles move unpredictably and no map of the surroundings is available. By considering how far obstacles could travel over time, SANDO creates safety corridors that help drones navigate around potential dangers while planning efficient routes toward their destinations. The technology could support search-and-rescue missions in collapsed buildings, mine exploration, disaster response, and package delivery in crowded neighborhoods. SANDO continuously adjusts its flight path as conditions change, allowing the drone to respond quickly using onboard computers and sensors. In simulations, it reached goals faster than several existing systems while avoiding collisions, and it also avoided dynamic obstacles in 12 real-world test flights. This research highlights how autonomous navigation could make robotic flight more reliable in challenging environments. #SANDO #AutonomousDrones #DroneTechnology #MIT #Robotics #ArtificialIntelligence #AutonomousNavigation #FutureTechnology
