The government is pursuing two tracks at the same time. On one side, the Home Office has reopened the UK Resettlement Scheme, providing a safe and legal route for vulnerable refugees, with around one in four referrals expected to be Afghan women and girls and Palestinian refugees. The government’s Immigration and Asylum Bill includes reforms aimed at preventing what it describes as abuse of the asylum system, while detention capacity and removals are also being expanded. GOV.UK Another change allows the Home Office to seek contributions towards accommodation and support from asylum seekers who have sufficient funds.
