Pinky and Perky - All Ashore - BBC TV 17/10/63

Pinky and Perky, Britain's favourite porky singing puppets of the 1960s, continue their musical seafaring odyssey as they take shore-leave at the same time as a revolution begins. This causes Captain Scuttle (played by John Slater of Z Cars fame) more than a little anxiety! In the days when the BBC only had one TV channel in Britain, Pinky and Perky could command up to 15 million viewers. The combination of cheeky-looking puppet pigs and some of the great pop songs of the day was a real hit with children - not to mention the adults. Although most episodes of Pinky and Perky are missing from the BBC archive, this particular episode may have been preserved as producer Trevor Hill returned at least one episode from his private collection to the BBC a few years ago. From excerpts I have seen, one of the musical items from this episode, Soul Bossa Nova, is in the archive. What you have here is an off-air recording of an episode called 'All Ashore', complete with the sound of young viewers in the background! It was broadcast at 4.45pm on Sunday 17th November 1963 on the one and only BBC Television channel.
