Inside ABC’s Completely Insane 1973 Saturday Morning Preview!

Remember the very first time Superman met Batman on live action television on the 1973 ABC Saturday Morning Sneak Peek. The special also included Bugs Bunny, Yogi Bear, Lassie, and Rick Springfield with hosts Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber. Game show host, Chuck Woolery played Superman before his career took off. The actor playing Batman is unknown to this day. Actors wore costumes for Bugs Bunny and Yogi Bear, but you could hear their familiar voices, Mel Blanc for Bugs Bunny, and Daws Butler for Yogi Bear. Lassie was there promoting her show, Lassie and the Rescue Rangers a show that was panned by Lassie's trainer in real life according to a post in wiki. Before hanging out with Superman and Batman, Lassie had met another iconic hero on her series, the Lone Ranger. Yogi Bear promoted the new show Yogi's Gang. Batman and Superman were there for the very first introduction of the Super Friends which was also the first animated team-up of Superman and Batman. Rick Springfield was there for his animated series, Mission: Magic. Goober the invisible dog could be heard representing the new Goober and the Ghost Chasers, a Scooby Doo clone. The host Jack Burns is famous for his short time on the Andy Griffith Show as Deputy Warren. The second host, Avery Schreiber was famous for his role on My Mother the Car, a not so bad TV series deemed the worst TV show of all time, and Avery was also known for his later work as the Doritos spokesman. Coincidentally, on the Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber comedy hour, Avery had did a skit dressed in a Superman costume with Ruth Buzzi playing Wonder Woman. #1973 #classictv #saturdaymorningcartoons #classictelevision #tvhistory 0:00 Intro 1:03 Bugs Bunny arrives 1:51 Superman meets Batman for the first time on TV 3:03 The Introduction to the Super Friends 3:39 Lassie and the Rescue Rangers 4:59 Rick Springfield and Mission Magic 6:05 Goober and the Ghost Chasers 7:24 Yogi Bear's series Yogi's Gang 8:49 The Hosts Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber 9:35 Jack Burns from the Andy Griffith Show
