   • Hundred Hues – Echoes of Karuta   Hundred Hues - Echoes of Karuta - is a musical project that reimagines each poem from the Hyakunin Isshu—a beloved anthology of one hundred classical Japanese waka poems—as contemporary English-language music. Rather than translating the original poems directly, the project reconstructs their emotions, imagery, and human experiences into songs that resonate with modern listeners around the world. Inspired by Sagami’s poem in the Hyakunin Isshu, “A Name Untaken” explores the aftermath of a love that leaves its mark long after the tears have fallen. Haunted by heartbreak and the whispers of others, the woman at the heart of this song refuses to let a painful romance define her. She does not deny that she loved, nor does she pretend that the hurt has disappeared. Instead, she draws a quiet line between losing someone and losing herself. Set against elegant, subtly venomous dark pop, restrained piano, deep electronic bass, and shimmering nocturnal textures, the song moves from exhaustion and vulnerability toward a hard-won sense of self-possession. Even if the love cannot be forgotten, her identity is not something she will surrender. The tears may remain, but the final word belongs to her. #HundredHues #HyakuninIsshu #DarkPop
