To a physicist, it is the deepest idea in science. In this Hindi documentary we explore the search for that theory, and why it has eluded us for over a century. We start with an uncomfortable fact, that we are not really made of atoms at all, since roughly 95 percent of the universe is made of dark matter and dark energy that our best theory, the Standard Model, cannot explain. We look at two very different ways physics lets us view reality, the quantum window and the classical window, and why two of our most successful theories, quantum field theory and general relativity, refuse to work together. We trace the real problem back to gravity itself, the weakest of the four fundamental forces yet somehow the one that rules the entire cosmos, and follow the search for quantum gravity into the only two places we might test it, the impossible dream of building our own black hole, and the cosmic microwave background, the oldest picture of our universe. We tell the genuinely strange origin story of string theory, a theory that was never meant to explain gravity at all, born from a failed attempt to understand subatomic particles called hadrons, until an unwanted, accidental particle turned out to be exactly what a graviton should look like. From there we follow the theory through twenty six dimensions, down to ten, and finally to eleven with physicist Ed Witten's 1995 unification into M theory, before confronting its biggest weakness honestly. There is still no direct experimental proof for string theory, and the sheer number of mathematically possible versions of our universe, at least ten to the power of five hundred, makes it extraordinarily difficult to test.
