The Chongzuo First-Class Tourism Highway (Daning Road) stretches for 59.2 km and is one of the signature scenic routes in Guangxi's borderland tourism corridor.
On this trip, we begin near the visitor center of the Detian Transnational Waterfall Scenic Area. From there, we follow a local border road and pass through Shuolong Town—a small frontier town that grew around Detian Waterfall. Once an important gateway for cross-border trade between China and Vietnam, Shuolong today is lined with Vietnamese specialty shops and border markets, offering a vivid glimpse into everyday life along the frontier.
Leaving Shuolong behind, the road opens into a smooth four-lane asphalt highway winding through classic karst peak clusters. Bridges span across valleys, while tunnels cut through the mountains, their entrances decorated with Zhuang ethnic-style murals and local cultural motifs.
The route passes through the renowned Mingshi Scenic Area, where the emerald-green Mingshi River meanders between limestone peaks and bamboo groves. This landscape is famously featured on a Chinese postage stamp representing the karst scenery of southern Guangxi.
As the drive continues into Longzhou, the highway runs close to the China–Vietnam border, with views of Vietnamese villages just across the river. The road then enters the Nonggang National Nature Reserve, home to pristine seasonal rainforest, before passing the deep green waters of the Heishui River wetlands.
Near the journey’s end at Xiangshui Town, vast fields of sugarcane stretch to the horizon, forming waves of green that contrast beautifully with the distant karst mountains.
Hope you enjoy this journey.
