After a roughly 600-mile ride on the 1943 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead, something wasn't quite right.
The clutch started creeping. Sitting in traffic with the clutch engaged, the bike wanted to lunge forward, so we got it on the table, pulled the primary apart and started figuring out what was going on.
In this episode of BS Machine, we dig into the clutch and primary, take a look at how the old Harley rocker clutch works, inspect the primary chain and clutch plates, and track down what was causing the problem.
These old motorcycles were built in an era when the person riding them was expected to understand them, adjust them and keep them running. That's a big part of what we love about them.
After cleaning, inspecting and adjusting everything, we put the Knucklehead back together and fire it up to see if the fix worked.
Next up, we're taking the '43 out for a ride through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
