July 16, 1980-Twins vs. Yankees (WABC Radio)

-From the great 1976-1981 Yankees era. Although WINS was still the Yankee flagship station in 1980, for this week, as the Republican Convention took place in Detroit (on this very night, Ronald Reagan made his surprise selection of George Bush to be his running mate), WABC did the broadcasts to let WINS concentrate on news (this would be repeated the following the month during the Democratic Convention). The next year WABC became the Yankee station and would carry their games through 2001. This is when WABC was still "Music Radio 77" as they wouldn't switch to a talk format until 1982. -Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer, Bill White and Fran Healy with the call.
