Enjoy a breakdown of what it is like to go into Aspen, Colorado, an airport located almost 7900 ft above sea level, surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains! This day was picture perfect weather, and we fly a visual approach. In flying the visual that means we also get pretty close to some terrain in order to shallow out our descent angle. The approach into Aspen can be very challenging with poor weather conditions, but this landing was relatively simple given the conditions. The key to a safe approach and landing into Aspen is planning ahead, and getting configured to land a lot earlier than we normally do arriving at other airports. If you are not fully configured (gear and flaps down, and at approach airspeed) it can be impossible to descend to the airport for landing. Please follow me on my other platforms!!!
