Veliki Oltar (2621 m) is one of the most respected and remote peaks in the Martuljek group of the Julian Alps, known for its solitude, technical challenges, and stunning views. There are no marked paths to the summit—only raw wilderness, crumbling limestone, and exposed ridge scrambling (UIAA grade III). I started far below in Vrata Valley and climbed solo all the way to the top, passing the beautiful new Bivak II na Jezerih, a high-altitude shelter perched dramatically beneath the cliffs.
