Jeremiah's Song. Jeremiah
Lyrics:
Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom
Neither let the mighty man glory in his might
Let not the rich man glory in his riches
For wisdom shall fail
And strength shall perish
And riches shall take wings and fly away
But there is something worth knowing
Something greater than them all
**Let him that glorieth glory in this
That he understandeth and knoweth me
That I am the Lord
Which exercise lovingkindness
Judgment and righteousness
In the earth
For in these things I delight**
Before I formed thee in the belly
I knew thee
Before thou camest forth from the womb
I sanctified thee
And I said, “Ah, Lord God
Behold, I cannot speak
For I am a child.”
But the Lord said:
“Say not, I am a child
For thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee
And whatsoever I command thee
Thou shalt speak.”
And He put forth His hand
And touched my mouth.
But the people would not hear
And they mocked me
And they put me in the pit
And I said:
“I will not make mention of him
Nor speak any more in his name.”
But His word was in my heart
As a burning fire
Shut up in my bones
And I was weary with forbearing
And I could not stay.
**I could not stop speaking
Though I wanted to run
I could not hide His word
Though the world would not hear
For what is wisdom?
What is strength?
What are riches without Him?
Let him that glorieth glory in this
That he understandeth and knoweth the Lord**
Why doth the way of the wicked prosper?
Why are they happy that deal very treacherously?
Righteous art thou, O Lord
Yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments.
I did not always understand His ways
But I learned to know His heart.
And the Lord showed me the potter:
“As the clay is in the potter’s hand
So are ye in mine hand.”
And He showed me the broken cisterns:
“My people have committed two evils
They have forsaken me
The fountain of living waters
And hewed them out cisterns
Broken cisterns
That can hold no water.”
Then He showed me a covenant
Greater than the tablets of stone:
“I will put my law in their inward parts
And write it in their hearts
And will be their God
And they shall be my people.”
And this was the promise:
“They shall all know me
From the least of them unto the greatest of them.”
**They shall know me
And I will be their God
They shall know me
And I will forgive their iniquity
I will write my law upon their hearts
And I will remember their sin no more**
So let not the wise man glory in his wisdom
Let not the mighty man glory in his might
Let not the rich man glory in his riches
**Let him that glorieth glory in this
That he understandeth and knoweth me**
For wisdom fades
Strength fails
Riches disappear
But the knowledge of God—
*Is life.*
