🌿 Andhra Style Pappu Charu – Traditional Home Recipe Ingredients & Process: Cook the dal Take 1 tea cup toor dal. Add 2½ glasses of water and a pinch of turmeric. Pressure cook for 5–6 whistles until the dal becomes very soft. Mash it well into a smooth, soft consistency. Soak the tamarind While the dal is cooking, soak tamarind in water so it becomes soft. Later, squeeze and extract the tamarind pulp. Prepare the tempering (Talimpu) Heat 2 tsp oil in a vessel. Add chana dal, split toor dal, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, a little hing and 2–3 dry red chillies. Let everything roast nicely. Add vegetables Add onions and drumsticks — these are must-have for a tasty pappu charu. You can also add carrot, ladies finger and brinjal according to your preference. Roast the vegetables for 5–10 minutes. Add tomatoes towards the end, then cook for another 2–3 minutes. Add spices 1 tsp coriander powder 2 tsp chilli powder 1½ tsp salt A pinch of turmeric Mix and let the spices cook well. Add tamarind pulp Add the tamarind pulp carefully, according to taste. Don't add too much at once, otherwise the pappu charu can become too sour. Let it boil properly for 5–10 minutes. Add cooked dal Add the mashed dal. Add some hot water if needed to adjust the consistency. Let everything come together nicely. Final touch ✨ Check the salt and spice. Add a small pinch of jaggery to balance the sourness and spice. Add fresh coriander leaves. Cook for another 5 minutes. ❤️ The final sign that it's ready: When the drumsticks are completely cooked, your delicious Andhra-style Pappu Charu is ready! 😋 Serve hot with rice, idli, or your favourite accompaniment.
