Dune feels like one of the most original worlds ever created. Sandworms. Spice. The Fremen. The Bene Gesserit. Arrakis feels unlike almost anything else in science fiction. But, Frank Herbert didn't create Dune in a vacuum.
In this video, I explore how Dune takes major ingredients from two very different stories: Shakespeare's Hamlet and the story of T. E. Lawrence immortalized in Lawrence of Arabia.
This isn't just a video about the influences behind Dune. It's about how creativity works: how artists borrow, remix, transform, and add that small but essential ingredient that makes an old story feel completely new.
Art begets art.
