Animation vs. Euclid: Book I, Part 4 (I.44 to I.48, Pythagoras). All 48 propositions of Euclid's Book I, from the definitions and postulates through the equilateral triangle, congruence, parallels and equal areas to the Pythagorean theorem and its converse, fought by a Lampblack woodcut geometer against the Sovereign Form in Oliver Byrne's four-ink 1847 style. Every line, arc and fill is drawn as it would be constructed: an engraved hand rules each line with a fountain pen against a rule, swings the compass from a pinpricked centre and colours each region with a marker, in Byrne's four inks.
