Top court sentences killer to 20 years in jail for 1997 Itaewon murder case

대법 '이태원 살인사건' 진범 오늘 선고…20년만에 단죄 Korea's Supreme Court has sentenced U.S. citizen Arthur Patterson to 20 years behind bars for murdering a Korean college student in Seoul's Itaewon district nearly two decades ago. The top court delivered its final verdict on Wednesday after 37-year-old Patterson appealed the Seoul High Court's September ruling that handed down the 20-year sentence for killing college student Cho Joong-pil. Cho died after being stabbed multiple times in the bathroom of a Burger King restaurant in the popular foreigner district in 1997.
