Previously, visitors had to climb approximately 750 steep steps to reach the hilltop. The ropeway is expected to be fully operational by May 2026. Key Project Details Location: Barabar Hills (Vanavar), near Makhdumpur, Jehanabad. Total Cost: Over ₹23 crore. Capacity: Each trolley will accommodate 8 to 10 passengers. Sections: The project involves two main alignments: Hathiyabor Side: Approximately 1,200 metres long. Patal Ganga Side: Approximately 1,000 metres long. Construction has moved into its final stages. Recent inspections by district officials indicate that the technical work is largely complete, with trials conducted in early 2026 to ensure safety standards. Tourism Boost: By making the site accessible to elderly and physically challenged pilgrims, the ropeway is expected to significantly increase footfall to the world's oldest surviving rock-cut caves. Scenic Experience: Passengers will get a panoramic view of the Falgu River and the surrounding landscape during the ascent. Eco-Tourism Hub: Parallel to the ropeway, the government is developing the area with mud cottages and bird habitats to create a comprehensive tourist destination.
