Welcome to another Extended Farm Documentary from us. In this episode, we follow the feeding journey of 10,000+ Lohmann Brown layer chicks during their first week on the farm. From their first introduction to commercial pre-starter feed to the daily feeding routine that follows, this documentary gives you a closer look at how we managed nutrition for a large flock during one of the earliest stages of their development. You'll see our team preparing and distributing commercial pre-starter feed, chicks discovering their first meals, feeding activity inside the brooder, and the ongoing monitoring that comes with managing thousands of young birds. What you'll see in this documentary • Introducing feed to newly arrived day-old chicks • Unboxing commercial pre-starter feed • Preparing feeding trays • Chicks discovering their first feed • Monitoring feeding activity • Managing feed access for a large flock • Observing chick behaviour during feeding • Maintaining a consistent feeding routine • Following the chicks from Day 1 through Day 7 • The early nutritional journey of 10,000+ layer chicks Why the First Week Matters The first week is an important stage in chick development. Young birds need appropriate nutrition, clean water, suitable brooding conditions, adequate space, and close observation as they adapt and grow. In this documentary, we're showing what we fed and how we managed this particular flock on our farm, rather than presenting one feed programme as the only correct approach. The commercial pre-starter feed featured in the footage was part of our feeding programme for these chicks during their early days. From Day-Old Chicks to Future Layers These tiny birds are at the beginning of a much longer journey. Over time, they will move through different stages of growth, with their nutritional and management requirements changing along the way. This documentary captures just the beginning of that journey. This video is part of our Extended Farm Documentary series, where we revisit real events from the farm using extended footage and a slower documentary-style presentation. If you're interested in poultry farming, layer farming, commercial chicken production, day-old chick care, brooding chicks, poultry management, Ghanaian agriculture, or real farm documentaries, subscribe and follow the flock's journey. Question for fellow farmers: What is the most important thing you monitor when feeding chicks during their first week?
