Where the Wildflowers Grow
I found you where the wildflowers grow,
Where the river bends and the tall grass blows.
With a heart like summer and eyes like rain,
You made a home where I'd been wandering.
And I had nothing but these two hands,
No gold to offer, no promised land.
But you took my world and made it whole,
Like morning light through an open door.
We built our days from the simplest things,
From kitchen dances and wedding rings.
From quiet nights when the world grew still,
And loving you was all I willed.
There was no kingdom, no grand design,
Just your hand finding its way to mine.
And if the stars should fall from view,
I'd still know heaven from loving you.
Oh, my love, where the wildflowers grow,
Where the old winds sing and the cold streams flow.
If the world forgets what the heavens knew,
I'll carry the light I found in you.
For love ain't measured in years gone by,
Or whispered vows beneath the sky.
It's every breath, it's every dawn,
It's holding on when the days are gone.
If I could gather the autumn leaves,
I'd make a bed beneath the trees.
And lay beside you as the daylight fades,
With nothing left that I need to say.
For I have known what the poets write,
That love can make a lifetime right.
And if I walked a thousand miles,
I'd know you still by your smallest smile.
Some loves are written in stone and sand,
Some are carried by the shifting land.
But ours was never meant to fade,
Like roots beneath the earth we've made.
And should the seasons turn to dust,
And time forget the things it must,
There'd still be something running through,
A quiet world that belongs to two.
Oh, my love, where the wildflowers grow,
Where the old winds sing and the cold streams flow.
If the world forgets what the heavens knew,
I'll carry the light I found in you.
For love ain't measured in years gone by,
Or whispered vows beneath the sky.
It's every breath, it's every dawn,
It's loving you when the world moves on.
And when the wildflowers bloom again,
And summer comes to the hills once more,
I'll know that love was never something
We were meant to outgrow.
Where the wildflowers grow...
That's where my heart will always go.
