Working under supervision is a key part of developing as an early years practitioner. This lesson explains how supervision combines guidance from experienced colleagues with personal responsibility and initiative. You will learn about shared responsibility, accountability and the importance of following instructions accurately in care routines, activities, health and safety, safeguarding and record keeping. The lesson also explores active learning through observation, questions, feedback and reflection, as well as the value of clear communication, reliability and attention to detail. You will see how to use initiative appropriately, such as preparing resources or responding to a child’s needs, while recognising when to stay within your role and refer to a senior colleague. Finally, discover how effective supervision helps protect children, maintain EYFS standards, support professional growth and strengthen teamwork.
