Kaisantunneli is a 220-meter-long tunnel for cyclists and pedestrians underneath the tracks of Helsinki Central Railway Station, connecting Kaisaniemi Park to Kansalaistori Square. Opened in May 2024, it creates a shortcut for east–west travel in the city centre by reducing the journey by approximately 600 meters and avoiding multiple traffic lights. The tunnel features a 4-meter-wide cycling lane and a 3.5-meter-wide pedestrian path, separated by a curb. It directly links to the popular Baana cycling route and includes access to the station platform tunnel. An adjacent bicycle centre offers nearly 900 parking spaces, along with maintenance and charging facilities, although its use has been limited due to the slow implementation of proper access control solutions.
