Baduhenna – Come and Take It is an Viking epic symphonic metal song inspired by the lore of my longtime subscriber Michael Smith . This song tells the forgotten story behind one of the most honored weapons in his world: the spear. Long before Alya became the Queen of Ice and long before Odin carried the spear as his chosen weapon, there was Baduhenna , the first High Elven Queen. While her husband and his warriors were away securing the borders, nine hundred Orcs invaded the grove where Baduhenna lived with her children. With no army standing behind her, she became the final line of defense. Armed with nothing but her spear and blood magic, she stood between the Orcs and her children. Nine hundred came. Nine hundred fell. Baduhenna never fought for glory, conquest, worship, or a throne. She fought because she was a mother protecting her children. Yet the Orcs who witnessed the aftermath honored true strength above all else. They gave her the title Goddess of Battle , and her legend eventually became greater than that of kings. Her daughter Alya witnessed the battle as a child. That day shaped everything. Alya chose the spear because it was her mother's weapon. She carried Baduhenna's legacy into countless battles and later became known as the Queen of Ice , Celestial Goddess of Ice , and Goddess of Battle and Berserkers . Even Odin would later take up the spear, inspired by the legacy that began with Baduhenna. The song also tells the origin of the Black Flag : No quarter. No surrender. Fight until death. And the ancient tradition of a spear wielder striking the blunt end of their weapon into the ground before speaking. A gesture once used by Baduhenna to announce herself, later carried on by Alya, until generations forgot its true origin but never forgot to fear the sound. This is not simply a song about a weapon. It is a song about how one mother's stand became a legend, how that legend became tradition, and how the spear became something rare, feared, and deeply honored.
