Watch as an overgrown garden patch is completely transformed into a permanent, subterranean off-grid sanctuary. This ambitious build tackles everything from deep earth excavation to forging custom hardware in the freezing snow. Building underground requires battling the elements and relentless groundwater. To ensure a bone-dry retreat, the builder lays an extensive drainage system beneath a heavy load-bearing timber frame designed to support the immense weight of winter snow and earth. Inside, meticulous attention is paid to a subterranean plumbing network featuring a buried, heavily insulated water reservoir to prevent freezing. The interior comes to life with precision woodworking, a thick vapor barrier, edge-joined flooring, and a heavily reinforced rustic wooden door. Outside, custom steel hardware is forged and welded on an improvised tree-stump anvil. The beating heart of this hidden shelter is a massive custom-built sauna stove. Packed tightly with dense green stones that act as a highly efficient thermal battery, the heater core radiates intense, sustained warmth into the cozy cabin. As dusk falls and the fire roars to life, the completely self-sustaining refuge fills with steam, resulting in the ultimate traditional relaxation space. If you love off-grid building, traditional woodworking, and bushcraft engineering, this video will inspire you. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Excavation & Foundation 01:53 Heavy Timber Framing 05:20 Exterior & Weatherproofing 08:09 Subterranean Systems & Plumbing 10:32 Insulating the Mound 13:24 Stove Foundation & Chimney 15:34 Custom Door & Woodworking 19:42 Benches & Flooring 22:25 Loading the Heater Core 25:33 Forging & Final Craft 29:36 Fire & Steam Payoff 🎬 Original video by Dmitry Lukin:    / @dmitrylukindiy   #offgrid #sauna #bushcraft #timberframing #diy
