Born Gideon McLeod in the hills of St. Thomas, he grew up surrounded by poverty, farming communities, and strong spiritual traditions that shaped his conscious worldview. After embracing the Rastafari faith as a young man, he adopted the name Ras Gideon Flame, symbolizing courage, righteousness, and spiritual fire. His music blended deep basslines, Nyabinghi drums, soulful harmonies, and powerful lyrics addressing oppression, African identity, justice, and liberation. Refusing commercial compromise, he recorded independently and performed mainly for grassroots communities, becoming a respected figure among sound systems and dedicated reggae followers. In 1977, he released his landmark album, Cry of the Oppressed, a collection of songs condemning Babylon, celebrating resilience, and inspiring hope through faith in Jah. Though pressed in limited numbers, the album gained legendary status among collectors and conscious reggae enthusiasts. Known as “The Voice of the Forgotten,” Ras Gideon Flame inspired countless younger musicians through his unwavering commitment to truth over fame. His legacy remains one of spiritual resistance, cultural pride, and timeless roots reggae that continues inspiring listeners seeking justice, unity, and freedom worldwide. #RootsReggae, #ReggaeMusic, #ConsciousReggae, #ClassicReggae, #VintageReggae, #RootsRockReggae, #Rastafari, #JahMusic, #Nyabinghi, #DubReggae, #ReggaeVibes, #OldSchoolReggae, #1970sReggae, #ConsciousMusic, #ReggaeRevival, #LionOfJudah, #BabylonSystem, #OneLove, #JamaicanMusic, #SpiritualReggae, #ReggaeCulture, #FreedomSongs, #ProtestMusic, #RebelRootsStation, #ReggaeAlbum, #RootsAndCulture, #DeepRootsReggae, #ConsciousRoots, #ReggaeCollector, #ReggaePlaylist, #RootsColloectors 1970s roots reggae, roots reggae mix, classic roots reggae, conscious reggae music, vintage reggae album, old school reggae, authentic roots reggae, Rastafari music, Nyabinghi reggae, spiritual reggae, reggae playlist, deep roots reggae, reggae album 2026, protest reggae songs, Babylon system reggae, conscious roots music, reggae meditation music, Lion of Judah reggae, Jamaican roots music, roots and culture reggae, traditional reggae sound, reggae vinyl style, roots reggae collection, conscious Jamaican music, freedom reggae songs, reggae for relaxation, underground roots reggae, Cry of the Oppressed, Ras Gideon Flame, RebelRootsStation
