[MOVEMENT I]
LORD, You have searched me, and You know.
You know my sitting down and my rising up.
You discern my thought from far away.
You sift through my journeying and my resting.
You are familiar with all my ways.
There is not a word on my tongue,
but LORD, You know the whole of it.
Behind and before, You have closed me in,
and set Your palm down, keeping me.
Too wonderful, this knowledge, for me.
It towers over me. I am not equal to it.
[MOVEMENT II]
Where could I go from Your Spirit?
Where could I flee from Your face?
If I climb to the heavens, You are there.
If I make my bed in Sheol, You are here.
If I ride the wings of the dawn
and settle at the far side of the sea,
even there Your hand would lead me,
and Your right hand hold me fast.
Surely darkness will cover me,
and the light around me turn to night,
but even darkness is not dark to You:
the night lights up like the day,
as the dark, so the light.
[MOVEMENT III]
For You created my inmost parts.
You wove me in my mother's womb.
I thank You, for I am fearfully, wonderfully made.
Your works are wonders.
My soul knows it well.
My frame was not hidden from You
when I was worked in secret,
embroidered in the depths of the earth.
The raw thing I was,
Your eyes saw.
And in Your book all my days were written:
each one of them shaped,
before I had lived a single day.
And to me, how precious Your thoughts, God.
How vast the sum of them.
I count them. They are more than the sand.
I wake, and I am still with You.
[MOVEMENT IV]
If only You would slay the wicked, God.
Get away from me, men of blood,
who speak Your name for scheming,
who lift it up in vain, Your enemies.
Do I not hate those who hate You, LORD,
and loathe those who rise against You?
I hate them completely.
They have become my enemies too.
[MOVEMENT V]
Search me, God, and know my heart.
Test me, and know what troubles me.
And see if a way of pain is in me,
and lead me in the everlasting way.
