Around 2,000 Catholics gathered in Walsingham for the Dowry of Mary Pilgrimage, filling England’s ancient Marian shrine with prayer, song, procession and devotion to Our Lady. Archbishop Richard Moth of Westminster reflects on his first time presiding at the Dowry of Mary Pilgrimage and describes the extraordinary sight and sound of Catholics from across Britain and different cultures coming together in Walsingham. As pilgrims processed through the village, groups prayed the Rosary and sang Marian hymns in different languages, with African pilgrims bringing their own music and traditions to the celebration. Archbishop Moth recalls hearing prayers and songs from Zambia, Zimbabwe and other communities behind him, describing the experience simply as “the universal Church”. The pilgrimage culminated in the historic Walsingham Abbey grounds with Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction before the Blessed Sacrament.
