Hold Me, Mary: Somatic Movement in Song
As you listen and sing, you are invited to gently notice your body and follow the movements in parentheses. You may sit or stand, make any movement smaller, pause, or simply imagine it. There is no right way to do this, just listen to your body and move in a way that feels comfortable for you.
Verse 1
Mary, you knew the weight of sorrow,
You held Him close, you let Him go.
(Gentle self-hug, then slowly open your arms)
Through the Cross and through the silence,
You stayed where only love could go.
(Hand over heart)
Chorus
Hold me, Mary, when my heart is heavy, (Hug yourself)
Pray for me and lead me on. (Reach one hand forward)
Toward the heart of Christ our Savior, (Bring hand to heart)
To His mercy, and His love. (Open hands)
What was hardened, Lord, let it soften, (Open and relax your hands)
What was buried, bring to light. (Lift hands upward)
Take my sorrow, Lord, and shape it
Into love and deeper life. (Open arms wide)
Verse 2
Layer upon layer, grief can gather, (Hands gently over heart)
Pressed and hidden deep inside. (Bring hands toward your chest)
I don’t have to hide my sorrow, (Open your arms)
I can feel it, breathe, and stay. (Hand on heart, hand on belly)
Verse 3
Jesus, meet me in this sorrow, (Hand over heart)
In the places I can’t reach. (Let your hands rest)
Turn my grieving into compassion, (Reach your hands outward)
Turn my pain into Your peace. (Bring hands back to heart)
Outro
I am here, and I am held. (Wrap your arms around yourself)
I can breathe, I can release. (Slow breath in and out)
Mary, stay here close beside me. (Rest one hand beside you)
Jesus, lead me into peace. (Hands over heart)
(Rest in this moment and gently sense into your surroundings.)
