Leicester Station on 9th September 2026 Part 2 of 2

Leicester Station Part 2 of 2 9th September 2026 This is the second part of this feature on Leicester Station and covers the time period from around 13.45 until about 16.30. On my four day visit to the East Midlands and the Eastern Counties, I spent a day at Leicester Station, a location I have not been to since the 1980s. Back then it was 'Peaks' (Being phased out then) and HST's on the London to Sheffield services. Nowadays it is the Modern 810 BiMode Multiple Units and class 222's. Local services and Cross Country services are mainly in the hands of DMU Class 170's, and some local EMR services were operated with DMU Class 158's. The depot to the North End had very recently been cleared out of stored Class 99's and upon my visit there was only 2 Class 57's to be seen and Locomotive 68017 inside the shed. At the far end of the depot was 37905 formerly 37136, and out of sight was a Caledonian Sleeper Class 73. Much freight passed through the station in the hours I was there, and a few very helpful likewise enthusiasts, who informed me of the realtime running and history of the location, all proved very intersting and helpful. Some services were disrupted due to trespassers on the line later in the day, but EMR and the other companies kept nearly all service trains running. Freights were mainly Container traffic to and from Felixstowe and in the hands of Diesel Class 66's in a variation of company liveries. I do hope you enjoy this feature and feel free to comment.
