We tell the story of the widening of Michigan Ave, as we drive through Corktown. Tiger Stadium Area, Roosevelt Park, Ford Corktown Mobility Campus. In the 1800's, Michigan Avenue through Corktown was originally 66 feet wide, as were all county trunk roads at the time. When the automobile took over, widening was necessary. The buildings on the south side were razed to make room, and that's why all the old classic buildings are on the north side, except for 4: The "Factories," (now owned by Ford); the "Detroit Axe" Building (a former garage); and the Mercury Bar, which was far enough back.
