Starts in the evening while the lanterns go up, builds through the jumpers and the drums to fireworks over the bay, and walks home afterward. No repeats, no loops, one continuous two-hour set. The frog is jumping higher than anyone in the street and does not intend to stop. The rabbit has its eyes shut and is jumping entirely by feel, which is working better than expected. Neither of them has looked up at the float, because the float is not the point. The jumping is the point. 🏮 About Nebuta: every August in Aomori, enormous lantern sculptures of warriors and demons — paper stretched over wire and lit from inside — are pushed through the streets at night. Around each one, thousands of haneto jumpers in flowered hats leap to the band, shouting "rassera." Nobody watches Nebuta from the side for long.
