Costco has sold a hot dog and a soda for $1.50 since 1985. Adjusted for inflation, that combo would be about $4.70. So how does a company selling food at a loss earn $9.2 billion a year? It's not the hot dogs. We break down Costco's fiscal 2026 numbers: membership fees worth about half its operating income, whether the Executive upgrade pays you, the 14% markup rule, Kirkland Signature and the "treasure hunt".
Do you spend more or less than $3,250 a year at Costco? Tell me in the comments.
