CRICKET BEFORE WW1 | 110+ Year-Old Footage Restored in 4K Colour

🏏 Watch cricket before World War 1 in rare 1910–1914 film footage, carefully restored in 4K colour. See what cricket looked like more than 110 years ago, from Test cricket in Australia to packed Edwardian grounds in England. This 8-minute, Cricket Restored documentary brings the final pre-war cricket seasons to life through authentic silent films, historical photographs, period scorecards and narration. See the sport before television coverage, and how moments on the field sat beside traditions now forgotten. Travel to the Sydney Cricket Ground in December 1910, where surviving footage captures the South African touring team and the run-out of Australian batting legend Victor Trumper. Revisit the 1911–12 Ashes, when England defeated Australia 4–1, and the unusual 1912 Triangular Tournament involving England, Australia and South Africa. Step into Canterbury Cricket Week in 1913 to see Kent, Sussex and Nottinghamshire players, cricket spectators, grand marquees and bustling crowds. Discover the atmosphere at Lord’s during the Eton v Harrow match, and see a brief glimpse of local cricket in 1912. The story also follows England’s 1913–14 tour of South Africa, where Sydney Barnes took an astonishing 49 wickets in four Tests, and Jack Hobbs’s batting at the Oval, shown through a reconstruction made from original 1914 frames. Finally, witness the Oval’s transformation into a military training ground after Britain entered the First World War, and remember Kent bowler Colin Blythe, who lost his life in the conflict.
