Abbey Cwmhir Community Project - CPAT Talk 2021

To find out more about the Abbey Cwmhir Community Project go to: https://abbeycwmhir.org This video summaries some landscape archaeological findings made by drone photography and surveys made to date in the ongoing Abbey Cwmhir project. The video puts these finding within the context of the other work that is being done by the project. The ruins of the Cistercian Monastery of Abbey Cwmhir sit within a narrow valley in Mid-Wales. Three years ago a multi-disciplined community project was started to investigate the Abbey and its influence on the surrounding area and on its many granges. This project is a collaboration between the Abbey Cwmhir Heritage Trust and the Sacred Landscapes Project. This ensures that the work described here will ultimately be related to other Cistercian sites, in particular to the Abbey of Strata Florida, and inform Cistercian scholarship in general. This video is a talk given to the Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust in December 2021. 0:00 Introduction to the Abbey 2:43 Photogrammetric survey of the Abbey Precinct 9:55 Mapping the Abbey granges 12:40 Survey of Cwm Ffwrn farm next to the Abbey 17:33 Excavation at Cwm Ffwrn 19:57 Dolhelfa Grange 28:19 Groes and Cefn Dyrys sheepwalk 31:50 Monaughty Grange 36:03 Other work of the Project
