Nun’s Cross, also known as Siward’s Cross, is one of Dartmoor’s historic medieval crosses. Dating back to around the 11th century, it once marked an important boundary and stood beside an ancient route across the moor. The cross was knocked down and broken in 1846, but was later repaired and re-erected, with the iron supports still visible today. Just a short distance away is Nun’s Cross Farm, which is much younger. Established in around 1870, it was one of the later attempts to farm the open moor. The farmhouse visible today was built in 1901, but the farm was eventually abandoned after the Second World War.
