A man in Pennsylvania paid a $232,000 withdrawal fee to take money out of a crypto trading platform, prosecutors say. The money he had deposited in May was already gone. Prosecutors call it a pig butchering scam. This video follows where his money went, stop by stop, using court filings and Treasury findings. What the civil forfeiture complaint describes: in February 2025, a text from a wrong number. The chat moved to an encrypted app, and the woman on the other end gave him a trading platform. He sent about $25,000 in April and about $242,000 in May; by May 20, 2025, the screen showed $2,685,315. To withdraw part of it, he paid a $232,000 withdrawal fee, and still could not withdraw. Then he was told his account had been flagged for insider trading, and he owed another $320,000. In all, prosecutors say, he lost more than half a million dollars. Investigators traced his May deposit, not the fee. Less than an hour after it reached a private address, 230,000 of those coins moved on, through a chain of addresses, prosecutors say, swapped into another dollar-pegged coin and combined with other victims' money. It ended in one wallet that took in 5 million coins in a week: money from at least 19 other victims (about $18.5 million lost, counting him, prosecutors say) and 991,000 USDT from Huione Pay, a Cambodia-based payment company. Prosecutors say its records could not be obtained. The case is still open: in September 2026 a judge referred it to mediation, and the forfeiture is not final. Then the market. Secret Service and FBI agents wrote, in a federal affidavit, that guarantee networks eliminate the risk of the other criminal group simply stealing the money sent to it. The Justice Department says Huione Guarantee, also known as Haowang Guarantee, provided escrow services for criminals. FinCEN found that Huione Group received at least $4 billion in illicit proceeds from August 2021 to January 2025; in its own breakdown, about $348 million is labeled scams. Then the market moved. According to the Treasury, Telegram shut down Huione Group's channel in May 2025, Haowang sent its former customers to another marketplace, Tudou Guarantee, and, citing reports, H-Pay signs replaced Huione Pay signs. In June 2026 the Treasury proposed covering any successor; as of early October 2026, it was still a proposal. In September 2026 the Treasury said cybercriminals moved their activities to Xinbi Guarantee, which has processed the equivalent of over $24 billion since around 2022, and sanctioned it. Inside Xinbi, the agents describe a commission of often 3%, "first tier" merchants who take money directly from victims, "fleets" as code for money mule bank accounts, and "white funds." The affidavit charges no one. Treasury findings, sanctions and proposed rules are not criminal convictions; the complaint and the affidavits are allegations. No victim or defendant is named. If a platform asks you to pay a fee to reach your own money, that is the signal. The agents wrote that, typically, in this type of scheme, there is no legitimate method for a victim to withdraw his funds.
